About TMR

I've played hockey my entire life and have always been a die hard Rangers fan. Now that I'm done chasing the dream, I play in a few beer leagues but it just isn't the same as the glory days. I started this blog a little over a year ago and it has since evolved into something I really enjoy. Do I one day aspire to be a professional sports writer? Possibly. My dream job is being a general manager of a professional hockey team. My mood is hopelessly attached to whether the Rangers win or lose on a given night. I despise Sidney Crosby, loathe Martin Brodeur, and think Ricky Dipietro uses more hair products than any man should ever use. My name is Ryan McFadden and I am the editor of The Manic Ranger blog. Be sure to comment whether you like what I have to say or not. I can be reached by e-mail at tmrangerblog (at) gmail.com

Chicago Blackhawks Sign Marian Hossa To 12 Year Deal

After signing big-money free agents like Nikolai Khabibulin,Brian Campbell and Cristobal Huet over the last few summers, the Chicago Blackhawks have kept the momentum going by signing star winger Marian Hossa to a multi-year contract.

Hossa's story has been well documented over the past year, leaving Pittsburgh after their Cup loss to Detroit in 2008, only to join the very team that defeated them. Then he was forced to watch from the sidelines again, this time as a member of the Red Wings, while the Penguins hoisted the Cup this past season.

The 'Hawks have officially mortgaged their future for the present giving a 12 year contract to Marian Hossa. Can't say I like this move, can't say I like any contract that involves a player being signed for more than a decade.  I'm glad this one got done early before Glen Sather could have really gotten involved and overspent on Hossa who is now signed until he's 42 years old. News flash to the NHL, just because the Detroit Red Wings signed Johan Franzen and Henrik Zetterberg to decade plus deals, does not mean it's a good thing to do. Interesting how this became 'the cool thing to do' when the Red Wings did it and not when the Islanders signed Dipietro to the infamous 15 year contract over 3 years ago.

His cap hit is relatively low for a player of his caliber at $5.2 million per due to the extrodinary length of the contract. How exactly though to the 'Hawks plan on re-signing Toews, Kane, and Keith next summer?

Word is that the Rangers have interest in Mike Cammalleri. Lets hope not. Those numbers were certaintly inflated a bit playing alongside Jarome Iginlia and the Rangers can't replicate that enviroment for him. Show some restraint Sather and do not sign another undersized centerman to a ridiculous contract.
