About TMR

I've played hockey my entire life and have always been a die hard Rangers fan. Now that I'm done chasing the dream, I play in a few beer leagues but it just isn't the same as the glory days. I started this blog a little over a year ago and it has since evolved into something I really enjoy. Do I one day aspire to be a professional sports writer? Possibly. My dream job is being a general manager of a professional hockey team. My mood is hopelessly attached to whether the Rangers win or lose on a given night. I despise Sidney Crosby, loathe Martin Brodeur, and think Ricky Dipietro uses more hair products than any man should ever use. My name is Ryan McFadden and I am the editor of The Manic Ranger blog. Be sure to comment whether you like what I have to say or not. I can be reached by e-mail at tmrangerblog (at) gmail.com

"KHL-league Kazan wants Korpikoski"
Wednesday 7/8

KHL-league respects finnish players. The team of Jarkko Immonen (Kazan) now also wants Lauri Korpikoski.

Value of finnish players still stays high in KHL-League. Information gained by IL (iltalehti, the website), says that Jarkko Immosen's fresh home team Ak Bars Kazan also wants old TPS (TPS = Turun palloseura, SM-Liiga team) player, forward Lauri Korpikoski to their lineup.

As good two way player known Korpikoski played last three seasons in organisation of New York Rangers. He was picked as first-round pick (19.) in year 2004. The Roads of Immonen and Korpikoski already met in Rangers farm team in Hartford Wolfpacks at AHL.

Also the deal of finnish goaltender Antero Niittymäkis KHL-deal is very near. Goaltenders new address is Atlant, and the deal is almost done."

There are a lot of Rangers fans out there who for whatever reason are somewhat enamored with Korpikoski. I can't say I fully understand why, maybe because he was a 1st round pick? Korpedo is a nice third line player but he hasn't given anyone any reason to think he's anything more than that. He hasn't really showed flashes of brilliance or has been exceptional at any one aspect of the game. I would rather have him play another season in New York to see if he develops anymore but if he jumps to the KHL I'd be ok with it. He'll get more ice time over there and will hopefully also gain some confidence and when he's ready to come back to the NHL, the Rangers own his rights if they still want him.

The incentive for Korpedo to play in Russia is the moolah. A nice fat tax free paycheck that even the cash chucking Rangers can't offer him. It will be an interesting story to follow as we've officially entered the dead zone of hockey excitement this summer.

Big thanks to Rami, my friend from Finland and TMR reader for the translation.
