About TMR

I've played hockey my entire life and have always been a die hard Rangers fan. Now that I'm done chasing the dream, I play in a few beer leagues but it just isn't the same as the glory days. I started this blog a little over a year ago and it has since evolved into something I really enjoy. Do I one day aspire to be a professional sports writer? Possibly. My dream job is being a general manager of a professional hockey team. My mood is hopelessly attached to whether the Rangers win or lose on a given night. I despise Sidney Crosby, loathe Martin Brodeur, and think Ricky Dipietro uses more hair products than any man should ever use. My name is Ryan McFadden and I am the editor of The Manic Ranger blog. Be sure to comment whether you like what I have to say or not. I can be reached by e-mail at tmrangerblog (at) gmail.com

First off, Nikky Zherdev does not deserve a frickin' raise. When you take numerous vacations from playing hockey during the season and then completely disappear when it matters most in the playoffs, yeah no raise for you. If the Rangers feel Zherdev is going to win his hearing, then he might get moved before it even happens. Zherdev could be a solid pick up for any team that has some extra cap space and can more easily absorb the risk of taking on his cap hit. The Panthers, Wild, Sabres, Avalanche, and Oilers could be possible landing sports for Zherdev. The Rangers are in a precarious situation because if Zherdev wins his case, the Rangers might be unable to keep him and if he loses, there is some concern become unhappy and skip across the Atlantic to the KHL. Although, Zherdev has said that he wants to have a long career in the NHL.

As for Callahan, my guess is he gets a deal done before his hearing. Look for something in the range of $1.3-$2 million for three to four years.Cally was arguably the Rangers best forward last season as well as during the playoffs. Although he doesn't have any eye popping offensive skills, his work ethic and desire could transform him into a 30 goal scorer under Torts system.
