About TMR

I've played hockey my entire life and have always been a die hard Rangers fan. Now that I'm done chasing the dream, I play in a few beer leagues but it just isn't the same as the glory days. I started this blog a little over a year ago and it has since evolved into something I really enjoy. Do I one day aspire to be a professional sports writer? Possibly. My dream job is being a general manager of a professional hockey team. My mood is hopelessly attached to whether the Rangers win or lose on a given night. I despise Sidney Crosby, loathe Martin Brodeur, and think Ricky Dipietro uses more hair products than any man should ever use. My name is Ryan McFadden and I am the editor of The Manic Ranger blog. Be sure to comment whether you like what I have to say or not. I can be reached by e-mail at tmrangerblog (at) gmail.com

A Heatley Trade To The Rangers Is Still Possible

Now I know that nobody wants to talk about Dany Heatley anymore. The topic is slowly becoming the NHL's countepart to Brett Favre. It is inevitable that the Heatley saga will eventually end just like anything else and it's a good bet that it will end in a trade. Read between the lines of the Kovalev signing and it's obvious the Sens intend to move him. Heatley and the Sens have just gone through a divorce of epic proportions. The kind of which all future player and management relation problems will be measured against. There is no chance Dany Heatley is a Senator next season. Obviously Heater doesn't want to be there, but Bryan Murray doesn't want him there either and I can't imagine the majority of his teammates would be all that accepting of him in their locker room.

Of the possible landing spots for Heatley, the Rangers have always been towards the top of the pack. It was revealed by Heatley's agent that he was hoping that the Sens would make a trade with the Rangers. Anyone who reads this blog knows I was a big a supporter of Heatley coming to New York. But circumstances have changed and Heatley is no longer a good option for the Rangers.

The Rangers gave big money to Marian Gaborik, who when healthy is every bit the scorer Dany Heatley is. The cap space that was once set aside for a possible deal with the Sens is now gone and the need for a high scoring winger is no longer there. But Glen Sather is just crazy enough and just unpredictable enough to make a deal for Heatley. With Sather calling the shots, anything that opposes normal logic is thrown out the window.

The market for Heatley is dead right now. At least before Heatley showed he had a big sack of nuts vetoing his ticket out of Ottawa and sticking the Sens with a $4 million bill, there were a few teams interested. Now well, I'd be surprised if Heatley has gotten a single call about him. It seems as though the Sens have pushed Heatley out of their collective minds with the 'if we can't see him he's not there' approach for the time being. But eventually, the situation will have to be resolved and with Heatley holding the cards with his NTC, the ball is in Bryan Murray's court.

What looks better for the Sens right now?  Five more years with Dany Heatley and the media circus that will encircle their season or Michal Rozsival and Nikky Zherdev?

It's your call.

The Rangers need another forward who can score, especially if Zherdev doesn't come back. Rozi Zherdev and a pick for Heatley sounds ideal right now.

I agree with King Henrik. Adding Heater in exchange for Rosy and Zherdev fills a spot at wing and adds about 40 goals. If that's the trade that actually goes down then I would be all for that. If we have to give up a big prospect, then forget it.

I believe that Edmonton wants him very much. Just as I breathed a sigh of relief reading that Saku Koivu had signed with Anaheim, I hope to read between now and the weekend of an Edmonton/Ottawa trade that includes the man who doesn't understand gratitude or humility.

I'm all for getting him!!! I think we'd be crazy not to see Sather put a deal together. We would go from having zero to two superstars literally overnight and he wants to play for NY which is in our favor. I think Torts will straighten this guy out good and make him even better. Imagine him and Gabby on the same line?? If we could somehow pull it off to not include Z that would be just unbelievable, but he would probably have to be included in a deal. I would think Rozy, Drury, Korp, and Z should be up for consideration to reduce cap and somewhow put a deal together. Otherwise come playoffs we will just be another really good team and not a real cup contender...

It might be safe to say that Heatley is no longer an option with Kotalik signed. That $3 mill cap space that would would have been saved with Zherdev moved to the Sens is gone and the trade doesn't make cap sense.

Unless something drastic happens like Redden being waived, this trade is no longer possible

Is there a third option? Like good old fashioned cock punch?

yes a surprise cock punch is a possibility. but there is also the option for the classic burning sensation when you P. so basically this is the run down.

1) 5 years of Heatley
2) zherdev and rozsival
3) cock punch
4) getting burned by an unclean woman.

take your pic sens fans

i agree that the rangers should persue heatley. however, they would have to trade rozsival (which i don't mind) and someone else that is eating up too much cap space. the problem with this is that the rangers would be stuck with only one defenseman with experience. only redden would remain. the rangers cannot go out there at the beginning of the season with elite scorers like gaborik and healtey and no defense! they would then be forced to start about 3 or 4 young or rookie defenseman (staal, girardi, gilroy, potter and either sauer or sanguinetti). i think that would be putting alot of weight on girardi and staal and relying on them to have a big year. thats not fair to the youngsters and that would be a very unbalanced team in my opinion!
