About TMR

I've played hockey my entire life and have always been a die hard Rangers fan. Now that I'm done chasing the dream, I play in a few beer leagues but it just isn't the same as the glory days. I started this blog a little over a year ago and it has since evolved into something I really enjoy. Do I one day aspire to be a professional sports writer? Possibly. My dream job is being a general manager of a professional hockey team. My mood is hopelessly attached to whether the Rangers win or lose on a given night. I despise Sidney Crosby, loathe Martin Brodeur, and think Ricky Dipietro uses more hair products than any man should ever use. My name is Ryan McFadden and I am the editor of The Manic Ranger blog. Be sure to comment whether you like what I have to say or not. I can be reached by e-mail at tmrangerblog (at) gmail.com

Will Glen Sather Even Inquire About Dany Heatley?

With the rumors about Dany Heatley getting under way, I can't help but ask myself if Glen Sather is actually going to call Sens GM Dean Lombardi and inquire about their disgruntled sniper. It's not as if Lombardi has made it known that he intends to move Heatley, in fact, he really doesn't have to accommodate him. Lombardi can easily say 'you don't want to play for this team?.. well I have a $37.5 million contract that says you have too so grow up and play nice'.

But as a major league GM, Glen Sather has an obligation to make a call. If anyone else aside from Mickey Mouse were at the helm I would be confident that he would do so. But with Sather you can throw logic out the window. This might be a bit of an unnecessary rant, but my lack of confidence in the Rangers GM is something that is felt by the overwhelming majority of fans (code for every Rangers fan).

While I'm on the topic of Sather, I have to wonder why the Rangers haven't signed Ryan Callahan and Brandon Dubinsky yet. Jess of The Prospect Park wrote a plea for Glen Sather to earn the trust back by handling their contracts the correct way. That is not waiting until the last moment to take care of the two fan favorites. Sather needs to at least try and instill some confidence in the fan base by getting their contracts finished as soon as possible.

Sather knows he royally screwed the pooch last summer. He knows he's responsible for the worst contract in the history of the NHL. He knows the fan base wants him canned. But he also knows that owner James Dolan probably isn't paying any attention. At this point I don't know whats scarier, Glen Sather doing his usual mediocre job or the possible repercussions of him actually trying to fix his mistakes (trading Marc Staal and Brandon Dubinsky in order to dump Wade Redden) .

One things for certain, it's going to be an interesting summer..
