About TMR

I've played hockey my entire life and have always been a die hard Rangers fan. Now that I'm done chasing the dream, I play in a few beer leagues but it just isn't the same as the glory days. I started this blog a little over a year ago and it has since evolved into something I really enjoy. Do I one day aspire to be a professional sports writer? Possibly. My dream job is being a general manager of a professional hockey team. My mood is hopelessly attached to whether the Rangers win or lose on a given night. I despise Sidney Crosby, loathe Martin Brodeur, and think Ricky Dipietro uses more hair products than any man should ever use. My name is Ryan McFadden and I am the editor of The Manic Ranger blog. Be sure to comment whether you like what I have to say or not. I can be reached by e-mail at tmrangerblog (at) gmail.com

NHL Trade Rumors: The Senators Have An Offer From The Wild They Like, Rangers Actively Trying To Trade Gomez

According to several sources, the Wild are serious players in the Heatley sweepstakes (along with the New York Rangers and the St. Louis Blues, but more on them later).

With unrestricted free agent Marian Gaborik out the door (possibly to Los Angeles or Vancouver), the Wild would like to add a scorer. There are few better than Heatley.

There are obstacles, though. Murray would like a top player to present to Ottawa's fans, but the Wild aren't about to trade either 26-year-old centre Mikko Koivu ($3.2 million) or 24-year-old defenceman Brent Burns ($3.550 million).

What might Murray take, then? One suggestion is that the Wild might part with 21-year-old centre James Sheppard, their first draft choice (No. 9 overall) in 2006, and Ottawa 67's defenceman Tyler Cuma. Throw in a draft pick and everyone's happy.

There's a rumor floating around the 'net that the Wild have offered the Sens a deal that they like. Now they are just trying to convince Heatley to waive NTC and allow a move to Minnesota. Truthfully, like the 'done deal' Rangers rumor, I'm not sure there's any truth to this. The Wild might be interested, but the Rangers can put together a better off on the table if Koivu and Burns aren't involved in the deal. Josh Harding could have been an interesting piece for the Sens if they didn't acquire Pascal Leclaire at the deadline.

I don't really see this happening.

Especially because the Wild can keep the prospects and give Gaborik the big contract he wants.

UPDATE

Another website that is considered reliable has also posted on this scenario. I still don't understand what the Wild have to offer.

I also picked up an interesting tidbit from TSN's convo with Darren Dregger. Apparently the Rangers are actively trying to move Scott Gomez as well as acquire Heatley. There's little to no chance Gomez is involved in a deal for Heatley though.

Ray in Philadelphia, PA: There seems to be a lot of talk coming out of the Rangers camp in terms of trades. What's going on there?

Darren Dreger: Ray, the Rangers are trying to trade for Dany Heatley and at the same time are trying to move Scott Gomez. I don’t see Ottawa swapping contract for contract as Gomez hasn’t lived up to New York’s expectations. Sather will trade almost anyone with the exception of his younger players.

According to Mike Russo of the Minnesota Tribune's twitter "Appears L.A. Kings team to beat for Heatley; Alex Frolov, another & the fifth overall pick I'm hearing; No way Wild can beat that"

I was surprised too by the rumor because Frolov is a pretty damn good goal scorer himself
